Donegal CastleIn the north of Ireland, in County Donegal, there is a 15th-century castle of the same name, which literally rose from ruins. It was built by the head of the O'Donnell clan, then was presented to the English captain Basil Brooke. In the early years of its existence, Donegal Castle was considered one of the best in the whole country. For over 200 years it was in a state of ruin until it was restored in the 1990s. 15th-century techniques were used to install the new roof and floors. Now the castle is open to the public and is the venue for a variety of events.© Donegal castle / Shutterstock #CastlesofIreland
