Ross CastleThe family seat of the O'Donahue clan is on the shores of Loch Lane in Killarney National Park, County Kerry. Ross Castle was built at the end of the 15th century in a classic medieval style. It is one of the last strongholds to fall at the hands of Oliver Cromwell in the 1650s. According to legend, the head of the O'Donahue family still lives at the bottom of the lake and appears on the first morning of May every seven years, riding a white horse. In the halls of Ross Castle, oak furniture of the 16th-17th centuries, as well as works of art, have been preserved. After the tour, you can have a picnic under the spreading trees or take a boat ride on Loch Lane.© Patryk Kosmider / Shutterstock #CastlesofIreland
